3 Days of Outdoor Adventure in Portneuf

With great trails and amazing scenery, Portneuf is perfect for anyone who likes biking. Top of our list is the Dansereau — La Liseuse bike path along the Jacques Cartier River. There’s very little change in altitude, making it accessible for everyone, even families. 

With its lovely rooftop patio and classic diner fare, including a mighty tasty burger, the Vieux-Moulin Snack Shack in Pont-Rouge is not to be missed.

This delightful footpath connects Maison Déry and Moulin Marcoux, Pont‑Rouge’s two main cultural sites. The Promenade stretches for 4.6 km (2.9 miles) along the Jacques‑Cartier river and features 30 interpretive signs for learning on the go.

On se dirige ensuite vers Deschambault avec un arrêt au Vieux Presbytère. Édifice classé monument historique, ce site patrimonial est l'un des éléments importants du cœur institutionnel du village où se trouvent également l'église, le couvent, l'hôtel de ville et la salle des habitants. 

On y propose des expositions permanentes liées à l'histoire et au patrimoine ainsi que des expositions en art visuel et en métiers d'art contemporain. Une invitation à plonger dans l’histoire vivante de ce lieu porté avec fierté par la communauté locale.

For dinner, head to Myranel, a great place to sample local flavours in the heart of the picturesque village of Deschambault.  

Looking for more good eats? There’s also Dinette du Cap, a nice little bistro located in a house built in 1846.

After an eventful day, it’s time to relax and unwind at Auberge de l’Ouest, a warm and cozy inn that welcomes guests to a century-old three-storey home.

Wake up and dig into a delicious breakfast spread featuring local products from the Portneuf area, including yogurt from the Reine des Prés farm, fresh eggs from Poulailler Portn’Oeuf, and hazelnut chocolate spread by Julie Vachon Chocolats. Delish!

The food keeps coming at Fromagerie des Grondines, a cheesemaking operation that takes visitors on a guided tour of the barn, milking parlour, cheesemaking room, and the cheese cave. The tour draws to a tasty conclusion with a sampling of organic raw-milk cheeses.

Pick up a cheese or three from the Grondines shop for a very special picnic in Portneuf’s regional park.

After a good meal shared in the park’s idyllic setting, it’s time to rent a canoe, kayak, or paddleboard and spend the afternoon floating down the Sainte-Anne River.

At the end of the day, no need to pack up and drive away: the park’s permanent tents are perfect for a restful slumber after a beautiful day in nature.

Maison Plamondon presents exhibitions that highlight the region's cultural identity. For summer 2024, visitors can explore exhibits featuring the timeless values of the First Nations, Vallée Bras-du-Nord's iconic landscapes and people who have contributed to the region's development.

Ti-Oui is a lunchtime must. The legendary Ti-Oui Snack Bar has been serving up the best poutine in Portneuf for 45 years! Plus, it’s on the way to Vallée Bras-du-Nord, a magnificent park where it’s easy to work off the gravy and cheese.

We can also take the opportunity of our visit to downtown Saint-Raymond to buy local products. We particularly love the Alexis de Portneuf cheese factory.

An afternoon is plenty of time for an 8 km (5-mile) hike to beautiful Delaney Falls along the Bras-du-Nord trail. At a brisk pace, the hike takes just under 2 hours. A more leisurely trek will add about another hour.

After all that fun and beauty, it’s time for one last stop, for a pint of craft beer and a delicious meal at Roquemont microbrewery. Feeling sleepy? Spend the night! The Roquemont is also a hotel.

Rest, fresh air, good times, and local fare—Portneuf has it all! Time to book that summer getaway.
