All seasons, Québec City and area is welcoming and full of discoveries to do with your canine companion. Here are the hotels that accept pets and some practical tips to make the most of your stay.

Pet Friendly Hotels

Some hotels are popular with pet owners:

In the Sainte-Foy sector, the Super 8 also welcomes your dog with pleasure. In total, more than thirty hotel establishments accept animals in the Québec City region.

When booking, check the establishment's policy regarding pets. From one establishment to another, the services offered differ and the related costs. For example, some places only accept small dogs, while others offer bowls, a cushion, a blanket and treats to make your dog feel like home. Although it isn’t recommended to leave a dog alone in a bedroom, some hoteliers will be more flexible and will only require a cellphone number to reach you. Others, will charge you a fee. Bring one of its toys. Your dog will find familiar smells and feel more comfortable in his new environment. Hang the Do not disturb sign on the bedroom door to prevent a stranger from banging and your dog from barking unnecessarily. Call the front desk instead if you need something.

Other Tips When Travelling with Your Dog

Before Leaving

It’s always a good idea to check the health of your dog before a long trip. You may need a health certificate or other documentation to take your dog on an airplane and enter Canada. Plan in advance to avoid unpleasant surprises.

Activities to Do with Your Dog

A walking tour is certainly the best way to discover Old Québec. On leash at all times, your dog can accompany you during your exploration of the fortifications, the Dufferin terrace, the Petit-Champlain district, the Plains of Abraham, etc.

For nature lovers, visit Domaine Maizerets, Bois-de-Coulonge Park and Plage-Jacques-Cartier Park for a bit of peace and quiet. You can also admire magnificent falls at Montmorency Falls Park or Canyon Sainte-Anne.

Regarding hiking with a dog, it isn’t the choice that is lacking in Québec City! Stroll to Mont-Sainte-Anne, Cap Tourmente National Wildlife Area, Marais du Nord, Vallée Bras-du-Nord, Station touristique Duchesnay, Jacques-Cartier National Park and Portneuf Wildlife Reserve. To relax on a beautiful beach and enjoy the sun, head to the Baie de Beauport and to Canots Légaré for a canoe or paddle board trip.

Dogs are welcome on these sites, but please inquire about and respect the different regulations.

Dog-friendly trails
In the heart of nature in Ste-Brigitte-de-Laval, Domaine Nomad offers trails specifically designed for dog enthusiasts, where you can walk freely with your four-legged companion and also engage in canine sports activities such as cani-cross. Reservation is required.

Dog Friendly Restaurants

In Canada, only service dogs are allowed in restaurants. However, a few restaurants admit them on their outdoor terraces, under certain conditions. It is recommended to call and inquire before hand.

Most restaurants in Québec City have a take-out menu and/or a delivery service.  Uber Eats and DoorDash deliver meals among the most popular restaurants in town. You can order your meal and enjoy it in the comfort of your room.

Located in Place de la Cité shopping center, Chien Mondain offers several accessories and canine clothing imported or made in Québec. In addition, a daycare center allows you to leave your dog behind, for a maximum of 2 hours, to ease your shopping session on site or at Place Ste-Foy and Laurier Québec, two adjacent shopping centres.
