1Enjoy the Festive Atmosphere of Old Québec
Old Québec takes on a magical quality in the summer. It’s like an open-air museum, and we love to explore it while strolling among the street artists. Start with a walk near Château Frontenac and watch the boats gliding on the river, then browse the work of local artists on Rue du Trésor and Dufferin Terrace.
End the day with dinner al fresco at a good restaurant, soaking up the electrifying atmosphere that comes from a succession of large-scale events punctuating the entire summer, such as the Fêtes de la Nouvelle-France, the Grands Feux Loto-Québec, and the Festival d’été de Québec.

2Wander Through the Old Port
Québec City’s Old Port is the perfect place to while away an afternoon. We love to wander there with no specific plan, popping into antique shops and art galleries, stopping for a bite in a restaurant, or simply enjoying the river view from Place des Canotiers.
The maritime spirit is still very strong here, with many heritage buildings dotting the streets and bringing the neighbourhood’s nautical history to life. The area is particularly pleasant at the end of the day when people slowly start to gather for drinks and dinner outdoors.

3Dine Outdoors in a Postcard-Perfect Setting
Summer in Québec City is all about outdoor dining! As soon as the temperature rises, outdoor tables fill up and dinners stretch into the evening. Many spots have become true bucket-list destinations. Gather with friends and family on Rue Saint-Jean, Grande Allée, or Avenue Cartier to soak up the festive vibes and blissfully lose track of time.
We like to switch it up between classic hangouts, such as La Cale du Port de Québec, and slightly less touristy neighbourhood establishments with outdoor seating, such as Pizzeria 900 under tall maple trees in Limoilou or Quai 1635 by the river in Cap-Rouge.

4Have a Picnic With a View of Château Frontenac
In the summertime, what could be better than a picnic with a breathtaking view of Château Frontenac? As the day winds down, grab some takeout and head to Terrace Pierre Dugua de Mons to enjoy dinner with a panoramic view of the river and Old Québec.
The Plains of Abraham are also a favourite destination for locals. Be sure to stop by Le Grand Marché de Québec first to stock up on picnic supplies and try a wide variety of local products.

5Visit Neighbourhood Public Markets
Summer in Québec City wouldn’t be complete without the neighbourhood public markets. These smaller markets offer an even more authentic glimpse into the city, where local producers and passionate artisans come together in a welcoming setting.
Visit the markets in Limoilou, Saint-Jean-Baptiste, or Saint-Sauveur to find fresh produce, sample local flavours, and experience a day in the life of a local during the summer. They’re the perfect place to enjoy summer in a whole new way!

6Head to Île d’Orléans for a Quick Getaway
Summer just wouldn’t be the same without a little getaway to Île d’Orléans. Just a few minutes from the city centre, the island offers the perfect combination of history, idyllic landscapes, and culinary delights. We especially love the small artisanal shops and the many vineyards and farmstands where visitors can stop on a whim.
For an unforgettable experience, visit the Chocolaterie de l’Île d’Orléans in Sainte Pétronille, then amble along Promenade Horatio-Walker for breathtaking views at sunset.

7Take in the Sights of Québec City From the St. Lawrence River
To see the city from a different angle, spend some time on the water. Whether by day or by night, the experience is well worth it. Take a river cruise or hop on the ferry between Québec City and Lévis to enjoy panoramic views.
Both options provide an unforgettable view of Québec City. From that vantage point, it’s easy to see why even the locals never tire of it.

8Cycle to Montmorency Falls
Montmorency Falls is one of the area’s must-see attractions, and cycling there is a unique way to experience it. Rent a bike at the Old Port and follow the bike path that runs alongside the St. Lawrence River all the way to the falls. With a gentle slope and magnificent views of the river, the journey is just as enjoyable as the destination. The more athletic among us can extend the ride to the Saint-Anne-de-Beaupré Shrine.
Similarly, Wendake is another must-see local attraction that’s easy to explore by bike thanks to a network of bike paths.

9Enjoy the Great Outdoors Just a Stone’s Throw Away
Living in Québec City means having access to stunning natural spaces just minutes from the city centre. First-time visitors to the area shouldn’t miss Jacques-Cartier National Park, which has over 100 kilometres of trails through an exceptional glacial valley. Closer to the city, the Marais du Nord offers a peaceful marshland retreat. Local outdoor enthusiasts also love escaping to the Vallée Bras-du-Nord recreational area, which is particularly prized for its spectacular landscapes and numerous outdoor activities.
For a more immersive experience, consider unique accommodations such as yurts, glamping tents, tiny cottages, domes, or forest cabins. These options offer a soul-nourishing break from everyday life.

10Have a Beach Day Right in the City
In Québec City, the beach is right around the corner. On beautiful summer days, we love to explore Station de la Plage and Baie de Beauport. People go there to relax with their feet in the sand or play water sports in a laid-back atmosphere.
These spots offer an easy way to tap into a vacation state of mind, just a stone’s throw from the city centre. They remind us that Québec City is the perfect blend of city and nature.

11Explore Scenic Routes
One of summer’s simple pleasures is hitting the road for a countryside getaway through charming villages and pastoral landscapes. The Chemin du Roy and the Route de la Nouvelle-France never fail to delight.
We love exploring historic churches and stopping at cafés, small shops, local markets, and microbreweries. Drive at a leisurely pace to fully enjoy the views and discover hidden gems along the way.
