This charming alley, connecting Rue Notre-Dame and Boulevard Champlain, is located in the heart of Petit-Champlain, recognized as the oldest commercial district in North America. The umbrellas are typically installed from June through October. In January and February, they are replaced by suspended hockey sticks in honor of the Québec City International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament.

The installation was inspired by a growing trend in urban design that transforms everyday objects into eye-catching overhead art displays. The project was created by the Coopérative du Quartier Petit Champlain as a way to breathe new life into a street that had long been overlooked.

Parking and Access

Because the area is especially busy during the summer, it’s best to park outside Old Québec and continue on foot. Old Québec is easy to explore by walking, and the neighborhood is also well served by public transit.
