Winter Events You Won’t Want to Miss

Winter here brings a big lineup of festivals, events, and fairs, proving that people in Québec City definitely know how to have fun when the temperature drops. To help you make the most of the season, we’ve put together a list of events to add to your calendar.

    Pompeii: The Immortal City Exhibition

    November 18, 2021 to September 11, 2022

    The tragic fate of the people of Pompeii has fascinated humankind for centuries. See objects from the period and get a glimpse into the everyday lives of the inhabitants of this mythic Roman city at a new exhibition presented at MCQ (Musée de la civilisation) starting November 18, 2021. It features an immersive installation where the ground trembles under your feet and buildings around you collapse.

    Below the Arctic Ice with Mario Cyr: An Immersive Exhibition

    December 18, 2021 to February 13, 2022

    Welcome to the Canadian Arctic: a land of polar bears, whale songs, and stunning scenery that remains inaccessible to all but a few. Follow Mario Cyr as he takes you under the ice to explore this vast frozen wilderness from below. An immersive and moving portrait of an endangered ecosystem with one of the world’s great cold water marine explorers as your guide.

    Interactive Night Walk at Place Jean-Béliveau

    December 1st 2021 to January 9, 2022 and February 12 to March 13, 2022

    Place Jean-Béliveau is livelier than ever this winter, with a skating path through the wooded area, a warming station, and interactive light art to brighten the night. To learn more about the creations and find out when they’re on, see the event schedule.

    Québec Winter Carnival

    February 4 to 13, 2022

    This local favourite will be a bit different this year, with festive programming adapted to the public health situation. Carnival classics on offer include snow sculptures, Bonhomme’s castle, the logger’s camp, ice slides, and plenty of events to light up the town with carnival fun.

    Mois Multi

    February 3 to 27, 2022

    The Mois Multi event offers a full month of discoveries and experiments dedicated to multidisciplinary and electronic arts. This year, a dozen surprising installations are presented at the Méduse cooperative and for the first time at Espace 400e. An excellent opportunity to have fun and marvel at the genius and creativity of some twenty artists from Quebec, Belgium and the United States.

    Village Nordik in the Port of Québec

    February 10 to March 13, 2022

    Try your hand at ice fishing as you admire the views of the Old City. Village Nordik has music, a footpath, family play areas, and inflatable igloos to keep you warm while fishing.

    Manif d'art 10

    February 19 to April 24, 2022

    To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Manif d’art is back with a new theme: “Illusions Are Real.” In addition to the main exhibition at MNBAQ with works by 20 artists from five countries, public artworks will be installed in various outdoor spaces with accompanying audio guides that you can listen to on your smartphone. Also featured: a treasure hunt for kids.

    Latent Energies Exhibition at MNBAQ

    February 24 to April 24, 2022

    This exhibition at Québec’s fine arts museum creates a counterpoint between some of the institution’s recent acquisitions and the works of Paul-Émile Borduas, one of the province’s foundational artists.

    Pentathlon des neiges (Snow Pentathlon)

    February 26 to March 13, 2022

    Locals and visitors rise to the challenge at the world’s biggest multisport winter event, forming groups to face off in five disciplines—skating, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, running, and biking. There are team categories for families, companies, schools, and even seniors. Some athletes even complete the entire event in pairs or on their own! Most impressive.

    La Grande Virée

    March 5, 2022

    Teams of canoeists battle ice, open water, cold, tides, and each other as they paddle from Beauport Bay to Lévis and back again via Île d’Orléans in this extreme race, the final ice canoeing event of the season.

    Igloofest Québec

    March 16, 18 and 19, 2022

    Fans of electronic music and visual art are in for a treat when Igloofest comes to Québec City this winter. Celebrate winter and get groovy with local and international DJs and VJs including KAYTRANADA, Zeds Dead and Above & Beyond.
