Kamp
Hotel Modern
With KAMP, Dutch theatre company Hotel Modern presents a striking reconstruction of the Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp through an elaborate scale model featuring more than 3,000 handcrafted miniature figures.
On stage, three performers use miniature cameras to film this meticulously recreated world. Without dialogue and accompanied by an immersive soundtrack, the performance reveals the workings of the Nazi extermination system while questioning the role of images in shaping collective memory.
Founded in Rotterdam in 1997, Hotel Modern is known for its productions combining object theatre, video projections and music. Created in 2005, KAMP has received numerous awards and toured internationally, offering a powerful reflection on the horrors of war and the importance of remembrance.
