The St. Anne Basilica is more than just one of the four major shrines in Québec and the oldest pilgrimage site in North America.
As you learn more about this holy place, you will be amazed by the number of people who were inexplicably healed after their visit. The Basilica serves as a repository for for a relic of Saint Anne, and it was here that the first Scala Sancta, a set of stairs evoking the Passion of Christ, was installed on the continent.
You may attend a mass if one is being given or sit quietly and reflect in this serene house of worship. The history of the Basilica is best discovered through a guided tour. Note the wooden sculptures, stained-glass windows and the multitude of paintings, all produced by skilled artists and craftspeople many years ago.
Be sure to visit the 14 Stations of the Cross installed in a lightly wooded park near the Basilica, the commemorative chapel and the vault that tells of the life, virtue and glorification of St. Anne.
