Sussex returns to the Palais Montcalm after far too long an absence. True to themselves, the duo shrugs off labels with a distinctive blend of acoustic six-string guitars, vibraphone, and pedal steel guitar, over which Rob Lutes—a multiple Canadian Folk Music Awards winner—lays his warm, expressive voice. It’s a finely wrought encounter, hovering gracefully somewhere between folk and blues.

Formed in 2012, Sussex reunites childhood friends Rob Lutes and Michael Emenau after twenty years spent honing their respective paths—Lutes as a solo artist with seven albums to his name, and Emenau as a percussionist and composer. Together, they’ve created music of nuance and inspiration, as heard on their latest album, Shine.
