Rayonnante Huitième symphonie de Dvořák
Orchestre symphonique de Québec
The musical evocation of light lies at the heart of this program imagined by Hungarian conductor Gergely Madaras, which opens with the incandescent Symphonic Minutes by his compatriot Ernst von Dohnányi. Brimming with invention, these subtly contrasted orchestral miniatures offer a captivating introduction to Piano Concerto No. 1 by Felix Mendelssohn.
Under the fingers of pianist Élisabeth Pion, a rising Quebec star who has earned numerous international awards, this radiant score becomes a declaration of love to the young pianist who once captivated the composer. Its communicative fervor leads into the luminous Symphony No. 8 by Antonín Dvořák, inspired by Bohemian dances and songs. At the time of its composition, the composer was living a peaceful life in a Czech village, which inspired a work full of joy and poetry, culminating in a dizzying bacchanale that leaves no listener unmoved.
