Soweto Gospel Choir
Peace
With Peace, the Soweto Gospel Choir — recipient of multiple Grammy and Emmy Awards — stops in Québec City for the very first time with a vibrant program featuring South African songs about freedom, traditional spirituals, and beloved classics. The ensemble, which has collaborated with U2, John Legend, Robert Plant and Ben Harper, will also perform music by Aretha Franklin, Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Leonard Cohen, along with a few Christmas selections.
Founded in 2002, this choir was created to celebrate the unique power of African gospel music. It quickly rose to international prominence, sharing the stage with artists such as Céline Dion and Pharrell Williams, and contributing to several soundtracks, including Wall-E. Praised by Nelson Mandela, Desmond Tutu, Barack Obama and Oprah Winfrey, the Soweto Gospel Choir has a remarkable ability to uplift audiences with its contagious joy — reflected in its rhythms, rich harmonies, dazzling costumes and deep spirituality.
