Carl Mayotte invite François Bourassa
To close out 2025 in style, Carl Mayotte takes on one of his lifelong dreams: performing John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme. A spiritual and revolutionary masterpiece from 1965, this iconic work marked Coltrane’s shift from modal jazz toward bold experimentation. Interpreting it with both authenticity and innovation represents a milestone in the Quebec bassist’s career.
For this exceptional concert, Carl is joined by New York drum legend Ari Hoenig, virtuoso pianist François Bourassa, and saxophonist Damien-Jade Cyr — three leading voices on today’s jazz scene. The evening promises to be one of the major musical events of the season, featuring Coltrane’s music alongside Carl’s own compositions and works by other jazz greats.
Ari Hoenig is a Philadelphia-born drummer celebrated for his rhythmic virtuosity and melodic approach to the instrument. A key figure in contemporary jazz, he has performed with Chris Potter, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Joshua Redman and many others, while maintaining a highly respected career as a bandleader and educator.
Named Radio-Canada Jazz Revelation 2020–2021, Carl Mayotte is one of the most prominent bassists in Québec and Canada. A professional musician since age 16 with a master’s degree in jazz performance from McGill, he has earned widespread acclaim, including a Félix Award for Escale (2022) and multiple nominations for his Brazil-inspired album Carnaval (2023).
A cornerstone of Québec jazz, François Bourassa has released ten albums of original music, from solo works to his long-standing quartet. Winner of the 1985 Montreal Jazz Festival competition, he has collaborated with leading artists and earned numerous distinctions, including a Juno Award, SOCAN’s Hagood Hardy Prize, and several Félix and Opus awards. A passionate composer and educator, he has taught at McGill, UQAM and Université de Montréal.
