Clarté et passion
Orchestre symphonique du Conservatoire
Under the direction of Jean-Michel Malouf, the Conservatory Orchestra invites audiences to an evening rich in contrasts, where Mozart’s luminous transparency meets the dramatic sweep of Tchaikovsky and the Romantic fervor of Mendelssohn.
The concert opens with Felix Mendelssohn’s Ruy Blas Overture, an irresistibly theatrical work inspired by Victor Hugo’s play. With its driving energy and vivid orchestral colors, it immediately sets the tone for an evening marked by passion and intensity.
The program continues with a new creation by Charles Gagnon, featuring both the Orchestra and students from the Conservatoire d’art dramatique de Québec. This encounter between music and theatre highlights the creative vitality and imagination of the next generation of artists.
The stage then turns to violinist Henri Roy, winner of the Conservatory’s concerto competition, who will perform Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s dazzling Violin Concerto. Combining breathtaking virtuosity with deeply moving lyricism, this work remains one of the great masterpieces of the concerto repertoire.
The evening concludes in a spirit of light and elegance with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony No. 35 “Haffner”, a brilliant and refined score that radiates formal clarity and joyful vitality.
A program of striking contrasts, blending intensity and refinement, that showcases the full expressive richness of orchestral music.
