Raven Mother is the newest choreographic work by the company Dancers of Damelahamid, created in tribute to Margaret Harris, a Cree figure who had a profound impact on Indigenous performing arts. The production highlights her immense influence on the revitalization of First Nations dance and her crucial role in preserving and transmitting cultural knowledge.
This is the company’s most ambitious production to date. Raven Mother weaves together movement, song, regalia, sculpture, and design into a powerful embodied narrative. The Raven totem, represented in multiple forms, symbolizes transformation, the strengthening of culture, and the emergence of a renewed spirit.
