Mission

Destination Québec cité (formerly Québec City Tourism) is both a regional tourism association (ATR, for Association Touristique Régionale) and a department of the City of Québec.

As Québec City's ATR mandated to coordinate and represent the industry, Destination Québec cité's mission is to:

  • Guide and lead tourism industry growth
  • Contribute actively to the industry's prosperity through integrated and coordinated initiatives in marketing, promotion (tourists, business clientele, and media), development, hospitality services, and community information.

History

Destination Québec cité has been an integrated department of the City of Québec since 2002. Prior to this, the Québec Urban Community (CUQ) had been the tourism authority since 1970. In 1983, CUQ created the Québec Urban Community Tourism and Convention Bureau. That year, it also established a board of directors with a consultative role, whose recommendations were subject to ratification by CUQ officials, to foster closer cooperation between the private and public sectors. In 1978, the minister of Tourism created Québec's regional tourism associations, one of which was established in the Québec City area. It was dismantled in 1983.

In 1986, a ministerial protocol made Destination Québec cité the recognized regional tourism association for Québec City and Area, including the regional county municipalities of PortneufLa Jacques-CartierÎle d'Orléans, and Côte-de-Beaupré.

In 2021, Québec City Tourism becomes Destination Québec cité.
