Just 30 minutes from downtown Québec City, Parc national de la Jacques-Cartier is a must-see attraction. It’s a great place to get off the beaten track, breathe the fresh air, and recharge your batteries. Whether you’re looking to escape into nature, curl up in a cozy cottage, have some outdoor fun, or get an adrenaline rush, there’s something for everyone! The only question is—what kind of visitor are you?

The Thoughtful Wanderer

Being in nature grounds you—admiring the view reminds you what’s important in life. There’s no shortage of trails suitable for families and experienced hikers, and the views will take your breath away. Hit the groomed trails for some Nordic walking, go snowshoeing or cross-country skiing in fresh powder, or try the latest trend, fatbiking, on bikes with oversized tires. Extend your trip and camp overnight or stay in a yurt. You won’t believe how bright the stars are away from the city lights.

The Adventure Seeker

Adrenaline rushes and thrilling adventure

You love the feeling of freedom you get from carving fresh tracks through off-trail powder. You just can’t get enough of alpine touring (mountain skiing)! Parc national de la Jacques-Cartier has two ski touring sectors with over 150 hectares of off-trail to enjoy. Skiers who strap on their climbing skins or snowboarders who put on their snowshoes and head up the mountain are rewarded with a steep decent through a forest trail with challenging corridors that aren’t for the faint of heart! Beginners can opt for an introductory guided outing with Quatre Natures on a gentler, wider slope for their first time out.

The Zen Master

Peace and tranquility in a cabin

You like to get away from it all and are looking to relax for a few days. Fortunately, the park has a number of log and EXP cabins that will do the trick. Cozy up by the fireplace with a good book, a wool blanket, and a glass of wine in your hand. If, on a whim, you want a little fresh air and some outdoor fun, there’s no shortage of activities nearby. Go for a forest stroll at sunrise and observe the wildlife. Or why not go snow tubing or try the new skating trail through the woods? You might want to pack your skates just in case!

The Eager Explorer

Twilight fun and adventure

You love exploring and trying new things. Grab a headlamp or a flashlight, strap on your snowshoes, and carve your own path through untouched snow. Admire how the Jacques-Cartier Valley and River glow at sunset. Go ahead and take a few photos to remember the moment—it’s impossible to take a bad one! A naturalist guide can help you discover the secrets of the forest. Afterwards, you can head back to your campsite to take a well-deserved break, thaw out, and savour the moment. And what better way to finish off the day than with some beer and sausage while listening to stories and legends of lumberjacks and log drivers from days gone by. Cheers!

The tire-toi une bûche discovery activity for visitors age 18 and over happens every Saturday at 4 p.m. until March 17. Reservations are required and snowshoes are available for rent.
