Roméo et Juliette
Festival d'opéra de Québec
The Montaigu, Romeo’s family, infiltrates a party given by Juliette Capulet’s family. Romeo and Juliet instantly fall in love. They are secretly married by Brother Laurent. During a quarrel between members of the two families, Romeo’s friend, Mercutio, is killed by Tybalt. Romeo avenges his friend and pierces Tybalt with his sword. Romeo is condemned to exile. Who does not know the tragic fate of the famous lovers of Verona!
From its breathtaking opening (the first steps of which are reminiscent of the prelude to Wagner’s Phantom Ship) with its surprising fugue, to the pathetic death of the two lovers, passing through the famous tunes “Ah, I want to live”, “Mab, the queen of lies” or “Ah, rise up in the sun”, the music touches and moves us*. Thanks to Pierre-Emmanuel Rousseau’s stunning directing and under the musical direction of the French opera specialist Laurent Campellone, the Festival d’opéra de Québec offers you the freshness of a summer night, surrounded by passion, tears and absolute love.
