A pianist as talented as he is unclassifiable, Nik Bärtsch arrives in Quebec with his ensemble, Ronin, for their very first visit. This Swiss quartet, with over twenty years of experience, brings a unique sound grounded in cyclical motifs and rhythms, where each musician is dedicated to achieving more with less.
Joined by Kaspar Rast (drums), Jeremias Keller (bass), and Sha (clarinets), Bärtsch, an artist signed with the prestigious ECM label, crafts hypnotic pieces drawing from a wide range of musical languages, including funk, contemporary music, and Japanese ritual music. This is a fascinating minimalist universe, a worthy successor to the work of Steve Reich.
