La Fille sans régiment

Festival d'opéra de Québec

Once again, the association of the Festival d’opéra de Québec with JM Canada gives young opera artists a chance to showcase their talents and offers you a refreshing reading of Donizetti’s irresistible work, La Fille du régiment, which features ordinary characters where joy, emotion and events are expressed in music that is sometimes military, sometimes lyrical, sometimes made of popular melodies. This is certainly an event not to be missed!

In the Tyrol, occupied by Napoleon I’s troops, the canteen Mary is sincerely loved by Tonio, a young Tyrolean ready to do anything to marry her. “Adopted” by the well-known 21st French regiment when she was a young girl, Marie miraculously reunites with her real family, thanks to her aunt, the Marquise de Berkenfield, who wishes to marry her to the Duke of Crakentorp. Donizetti’s opera-comic is full of lyrical tunes that will charm your ears and your heart, including the famous tune for tenor: “Ah, my friends, what a day of celebration!” with its nine repeated counter-dos, and the joyful songs of Mary, who celebrate France, love, and the best regiment in the world.
