In this program, the multi-talented maestro and virtuoso of the viola da gamba explores the influence of Claudio Monteverdi – a visionary composer, opera pioneer, and brilliant musical theorist – through his sacred and secular works, as well as pieces by John Dowland, Anthony Holborne, Samuel Scheidt, and Jacomo de Garzanis. This season also marks the 50th anniversary of Savall’s prestigious early music ensemble, Hespèrion XXI, which is joined by the sublime voices of La Capella Reial de Catalunya.
