Sometimes, we need to take a step back so we can appreciate the treasures in our own backyard or see a city in a whole new light. We invite you to see Québec City through the eyes of international tourists.
From Mexico to Korea to France, thousands of travellers have had to postpone their plans to visit Québec City this summer. They’ll have to wait a little longer to stroll the streets of Petit-Champlain, but you can enjoy it for them right now!
Hyojeong lives in Seoul with her fiancé. They had to cancel their honeymoon to Québec City because of the pandemic… but not forever. Romantic strolls in Old Québec and cruises on the St. Lawrence River await their next visit. Not to mention the vineyards on Île d’Orléans, such as Saint-Pierre Le Vignoble, Ste-Pétronille and L'Isle de Bacchus.
Issam and Mijung, both artists, wanted to indulge in Québec City’s arts and culture scene. They were ready to be blown away by the city’s summer program of activities, urban art, dance and circus arts. Too bad they had to miss upbeat Petit-Champlain Street and its local artisan boutiques, plus all the magic the city has in store for visitors this summer.
Sangchul, a young father from Seoul, couldn’t wait to be wowed by the magnificent nature of Parc national de la Jacques-Cartier. He wanted to get away from it all, see the local wildlife and stay somewhere unique. Since he loves history as well as nature, he wanted to visit Place Royale and sip coffee on the terrasse at La Maison Smith Café. He wanted to show his son the Fairmont Château Frontenac, the most photographed hotel in the world. And we’re pretty sure he would have wanted to take a guided tour to discover all its well-kept secrets.
Miguel and Michel have been to Québec City before and are disappointed they have to wait a little longer to return. As Michel says, "visiting a UNESCO World Heritage City is like following the footsteps of history.” And Miguel is amazed by its proximity to nature. As a mountain biker and an outdoor enthusiast, he was excited to gear up and soar down the bike trails at Mont-Sainte-Anne or the zipline in Parc de la Chute-Montmorency.
Even though they’re on opposite sides of the ocean, Michel and Miguel agree on one thing: food. They can’t wait to try the refined dishes at ARVI and the authentic, decadent poutine at Chez Gaston. With all of its microbreweries and neighbourhood restaurants, Québec City is la place to enjoy the taste of something better.
While our friends are still waiting to jump on a plane to Québec City, we’re lucky to have a world-class destination so close to home. This summer, let’s enjoy it for all of them!
