Québec, July 9th, 2019 - Until September 2, 2019, residents and tourists in the Québec City area will be able to enjoy a multisensory winter experience in the middle of the summer thanks to Micro Climat(e). This year, the winter container is located in the heart of the Old Port, right next to the AML Cruises ticket booth on Dalhousie street. It is worth noting that nearly 30,000 visitors experienced Micro Climat(e) in 2018.
By giving them a sneak peek of our Quebec winter, Québec City Tourism (QCT) hopes to encourage tourists to return to our beautiful destination. “It's no secret, winter is mythical in Quebec and the goal of Micro Climat(e) is to offer an extraordinary experience that gives tourists a very brief glimpse of what they can expect in the heart of winter. Our fascinating attractions and products are unique and enchanting, and that's what we want to promote with Micro Climat(e),” says Éric Bilodeau, Director of the Communications and Marketing Department at Québec City Tourism. “We felt that offering this immersive experience near enchanting places like the Petit-Champlain district and our majestic St. Lawrence River, with a breathtaking view of Old Québec, was simply logical.”
In this 26' x 9' refrigerated “box,” whose temperatures can reach -8 degrees Celsius, visitors can enjoy a miniature version of the Ice Hotel, an authentic ski resort chairlift, ice sculptures and video projections of our regional must-see attractions. With the exception of the container's outer shell, which has been updated with the new tourist destination brand, the 2019 Micro Climat(e) offers the same immersive experience as in 2018. It should be noted that this initiative was the subject of international media coverage.
Open 7 days a week, from noon to 9 p.m., Micro Climat(e) was designed in collaboration with the Québec Carnival Workshops and Atelier 480. It is important to point out that 1,000 trees were planted in Montmorency Forest to reduce the ecological footprint of the winter container.
