Only 50 km (31.1 miles) from downtown, the Cap Tourmente National Wildlife Area is a unique, protected spot along the majestic St. Lawrence River, the vast coastal wetlands and mountains. Large snow geese gathers here by the tens of thousands during their spring and autumnal migration. That is a sight you won't want to miss!

Over 180 bird species, 30 mammal species and 700 plant species can be found here. A visit to this wildlife preserve is a wonderful opportunity to admire gorgeous natural scenery. Take a hike along a family-friendly trail, where you can participate in interpretation activities or use the tools offered to make your own outdoor discoveries about the local flora and fauna. Bird watchers, be sure to have your cameras at the ready to take some spectacular photographs! Over 20 species of ducks and geese have been identified as living in the area, as well as a dozen birds of prey and 30 species of warblers. In the winter, go on the bird feeder circuit!

    Cap Tourmente National Wildlife Area is home to nearly 1,000 plant and animal species. Stretching from the river to the mountains, Cap Tourmente National Wildlife Area protects a diversity of habitats that every year attract more than 180 bird species and, of course, numerous bird watchers. More than 30 species of wild animals are at home here. Quite often, you will not see them, since most are shy by nature. However, there are many signs that attest to their presence or passage: calls, songs, odours, tracks, marks, burrows or droppings.

    The Cap Tourmente NWA has a 20-km network of hiking trails. From the quick 0.5-km loop near the interpretation centre to the more challenging path leading to the top of the promotory. There are trails for every taste and every ability. Strike out on a rugged trail beneath a canopy of trees, meander along the plain, or stroll right through a swamp on a wooden boardwalk. There are countless paths, complete with lookouts and rest areas perfectly suited for observation activities, even in winter with 6-km of snow-packed trails.
